Who We AreRecognizing that the enjoyment of wholesome food is essential to the pursuit of happiness, Slow Food U.S.A. is an educational organization dedicated to stewardship of the land and ecologically sound food production; to the revival of the kitchen and the table as centers of pleasure, culture, and community; to the invigoration and proliferation of regional, seasonal culinary traditions; and to living a slower and more harmonious rhythm of life. Slow Food Buffalo, the local Convivium (chapter) of the movement, is an active part of the Western New York community. We host events to raise awareness of local food producers and their products, hold educational tastings, and support local groups that share similar goals. Our mission is to have fun sharing the things we love about our home while ensuring their continued existence. |
Heritage TurkeySlow Food Buffalo is proud to help provide Heritage Turkeys for the Western New York area as our contribution to the Slow Food Ark of Taste. 
There has been an inconsistent supply of heritage turkey breeds in Buffalo leaving consumers interested in purchasing higher quality turkey randomly calling farms directly in hopes of finding them or ordering from very expensive gourmet catalogs. Eating well should not be this hard on you or your pocketbook. Slow Food Buffalo has decided to arrange an online ordering system and common pick up point for people interested in heritage turkeys. We have contacted local farmers and arranged to have a limited number raised for us (to improve price by pre-ordering) and delivered to our pick up location on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. You are welcome to pre-order a turkey through us and add it to our delivery. The full price must be paid in advance and picked up in person. You must be able to pick-up your turkey. There are no home delivery options. Orders will not be accepted after November 14th. Pick Up Location Announcement! The turkeys wil be available for pickup at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmer's Market between the hours of 9:30AM and 1:00PM on Saturday, November 18th 2006. A Slow Food Buffalo tent will also be there every Saturday until the pick-up to take orders (cash or check) and answer your questions. Click Here for a map of the location. Heritage Turkey Breed: Standard Bronze The purchase price guarantees you a prepared fresh turkey within the weight range of your choice available at the pick-up location. The turkeys must be kept cold (preferably frozen) by you until cooked. We will provide safe handling and storage information with each turkey. All orders processed through PayPal. We will open the store again in 2007.
